I’m not voting for the lesser of two evils

Hey shut up idiot.

If you cared you would but you don’t. You want to signal that your belief for something is so strong you can’t morally support anyone who even slightly deviates from what you believe to be the righteous and just solution.

Let’s do a thought experiment: you are in a two party system. The current party has imprisoned you and is running on a platform that they will flip a coin and if tails you are to be summarily executed. The other party, trying to capitalise on this popular policy, attempts to moderate it and will let you roll two dice with only snake-eyes resulting in your death. You are the top news story in the nation and have the ability to address the country through televised interviews.

What do you do?

Do you tell all the potential voters that you won’t support any party that puts your life on the line in a game of chance? That they shouldn’t vote for the party that drastically increases your likelihood of survival? That you should abstain from voting for the more moderate party because they don’t immediately promise your release?

Obviously not because YOUR life is actually on the line. You can’t virtue signal without any real consequences to YOU. When YOU are being martyred and it’s not some people in the middle east it feels quite different.

You know why it feels different?

It’s because you actually care about your life.

So next time you want to tell your friends you aren’t voting for either party and then go home to pat yourself on the back for doing the ‘right thing’ (which in this case is getting tens of thousands more innocent people killed) instead you should just shut up idiot.
