What does the future look like to you?

It’s possible that it’s more important to think of who will get us one step closer to whatever that future may be.

Regardless of whether your future is a dystopian nightmare or a utopian technological paradise, having a firm understanding of what you think it will be and what you wish it could be should shape your political decision making. Elections, and the consequences of them, last forever. Even if society could effectively undo all the damage that has been done, the etchings on the mind of the populace will never go away.

What does that have to do with my future fantasy?

It gives you an opportunity to make lasting change right now that may be unappreciated in the future due to it’s obviousness. There have been decisions made on behalf of society, by the voting public, that are so basic we fail to appreciate them in the world we currently inhabit.

I still don’t understand.

Let’s do a thought experiment: in your ideal future, would you ever lose your healthcare? Would you ever deal with homelessness? Would you get measles? Would you power your home by coal? Would you get stuck in rush hour traffic?

Your answer is probably no to all of those. In your most nightmarish future what would be the answer to those same questions? Now, given your ability to exercise whatever political power you have, would you support whoever is moving towards your ideal future?

Obviously this all can’t immediately be solved, if ever, but why would you not move in the right direction?
